RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, is a restriction on the use of some hazardous compounds present in electrical and electronic equipment that was developed in the European Union known as EEE. After July 1, 2006, all applicable products sold in the EU must comply with RoHS regulations. Lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), and four distinct phthalates are the substances that are prohibited under RoHS (DEHP, BBP, BBP, DIBP). The prohibited products are detrimental for the environment, pollute landfills, and expose workers to dangers during production and recycling.
